Small Town Parade

For a small town having close to 100 entry's is pretty good, along with about 2,000 people it is a pretty big day. Not like the parades when I was a kid in Texas, no Sheriffs Posse or Army tanks, all the dance studios, local high school band and more candy thrown than Halloween
making the kids very happy.
It is worth going, it is small town America with small town values at work. Actually it makes me proud to be a part of it. So here are a few pictures for you to enjoy.

Sparky the fire dog always shows up.

Some of the entry's are just "different".

The Shriner's are always there with lots of fun things.

Of course Santa wishes all of us a Merry Christmas and so do I.

Christmas in a Small Town

I am lucky, I live in a small town. Not much that happens here, funny enough I like that. No big crime or corruption. People are pleasant, they speak to you even if you do not know them. They wave when you drive through the neighborhood. After living in many places in my past, this feels like home should feel. Christmas is important it brings Santa, festive lights and late evening  shopping, an annual tradition. So this week I took a few shots of the displays.

Window display with tree and sled.

Window in a window display.

The local diner, Home Folks Cafe is where a lot of people stop and have dinner.

Thanks for joining me, stop by again next week.

One of the Better Views

Life is where you are looking from, changing your perspective can be a good thing. Seeing what others may or may not see. I sometimes wonder if we all see the same thing at any given time. Possible we do. But I was here, on top of Chimney Rock and I saw this view of the tree and the clouds, so I saved it with this photograph. Maybe you can go and look, you may see something totally different.

Thanks for stopping by this week. Be sure and get your Christmas shopping done.

I voted?

It's all over except the shouting? Actually the shouting has just begun, lots of it. Those of you that voted, well done, it is your civic duty. Those that did not shame on you. It seems life is a progression of affiliations, I am young I am liberal so voting does not matter, to dang whats going on here, I voted for that guy or I didn't vote for that guy. A philosopher once said "we will vote for the person that will do the most harm" interesting viewpoint. It has seemed to ring true for a long time now. You should vote your heart or your conscious but you should not vote blindly. Thanks for reading stop in again next week.

Big Wheels Keep on Rollin'

In 2006, North Carolina's state agricultural department rustled up enough money from businesses to build an oversize, drivable shopping cart as an attention-getter for the state's various edible commodities. The Got To Be NC Big Cart moves courtesy of a Chevy 396 V-8,
necessary when trying to push a 15-foot-long metal frame.
I was fortunate enough to get this shot at the Hog Happnin' in Shelby NC
This photograph is in the yahoo auto Motoramic blog on 11/5/12.

It is a fun machine and will brighten your day!

Thanks for stopping by check back next week be sure and visit my Gallery's.

Lucky Shots

In the last few months I have had 2 photographs on Yahoo autos,
the Motoramic blog as the photograph of the day.
Most of us, photographers, always like to be acknowledged so it made me happy to say the least.
Not having a theme this week I thought I would share the photographs with the readers.
Vintage Pontiac hood ornament set against a blue sky.

Frankenbug or Beetle a hybrid kit car, really sharp one of a kind.

Autumn in North Carolina

Autumn is a wonderful time in the Carolina's, cool temperatures shorter days and remarkable color changes. Reds Golds and soft browns dominate the landscape.
The afternoon light is warmer and the shadows are long.
So here are a few shots that you can look at and think about the great times that Fall brings.

That's it for this week. Thanks for looking. Stop by again and in the meantime visit my Gallery.

Old School Days

We all have had our experience going to school. A few of us have had the hardships that our Founders have had. Dusting the erasers is one thing, having to stoke a wood fire to stay warm and really having to walk to and from to school in all kinds of weather, and some times uphill. Still want to study, fire up the oil lamp and strain your eyes.

When you goof up and don't study, you can wear this funny hat.

You can sit on these very hard cold bench's

And when it is time to go the Teacher rings this bell

Back up the River Again

When I get a chance to go to the coast I enjoy a ride on the Ferry. It is pleasant most of the time and a good chance to see some sites. Most of the time the sites are seabirds and an occasional Dolphin, which I couldn't get a shot of. One time on the river I saw a USN Stealth boat, great shot but I was inside a restaurant at the time. As a long time photographer I feel that you measure the shots you didn't get, should have got or totally blew. But patience will reward you,, right place right time is always important. Here are a few that were taken on the Cape Fear river.

No Dolphins but a nice horizon

The Lookout seagull hitches a ride

The Boys

Cats should teach relaxing. Seems they can do it well. This shot is of my two tom cats, the big yellow one is Leo, the smaller one is POO. Leo fusses over POO when he comes in the house, like a mother hen. Leo naps and est most days and is very laid back. POO runs around the yard and chases birds and squirrels until he wears himself out. So relax this week, the Holidays are coming and we will be running around like the cat. Have a good week. Stop by again.

The Great Train Wreck

Wrecks create a big mess to clean up. This one has been sitting for several months while the track has been repaired and cargo removed. Fortunately just property damage. It does create a great opportunity for some stark Black and White photographs. Here are a few below.

A freight train roars past the wreckage back on schedule.

A tanker car on it's side next to the rail

The last car of the freight train passes by the wreckage, business as usual.

Cloudy Day

I have always found that setting sun and clouds make a unique combination for photographs. It seems to be different each day, quiet and not dramatic and other times a small light show. I think my amazement has always been at how quickly it can change.
A few days ago I did my sunset check (peek out back door) and it was clearing from an all day rain, as I grabbed my camera it changed rapidly in just a few short minutes as I shot. So below is a series of clouds for you to view. No explanation just some quiet reflection on natures beauty.

Fading Dreams

I love old cars, like most men I think. When I see them, I remember when I was a kid and either owned one or rode in one of my buddy's cars. So here are a few recent shots to look at, maybe you can recall your experience.

End of an Era

Carolina Freight headquarters building is being torn down. The company closed a number of years ago and finding a new tenant for that large space has not been successful. Sad to see it go the loss to the local economy was devastated and the empty building is a sad reminder of better days. Hopefully the land will be put to good use. Here are a few shots of the remains.

Spare Parts of Old Cars

A bit like architecture parts of old cars have a unique look. Sometimes the look can express that owners opinion or just plain goofy! But here are a few views you might enjoy.

A 1940 Ford Taillight.

The Rocket Oldsmobile Hood Ornament.

Side window vent on this old Hudson, don't see those now.

Finally the classic interior of this 1948 Oldsmobile.

On My Way There

Sometimes when you head out to shoot something you occasionally get side tracked. I headed to a small car show and when I arrived I discovered that the Fire Department was burning a small house for practice. Not an unusual thing but done unannounced so you don't always know when or where. So never missing an opportunity to grab a few shots. Below you will find a few.

A big burst of flames from the attic.

Local Fire Truck, red of course.

Fire now on the lower level.

And Engine # 342 in yellow.

That's it this week, thanks for reading, stop by next week!

Cars Made of Wood

Popular in the early half of the Century "woodys" kind of fell away in the late 50s and early 60s. They were a bit stodgy at the time, mostly families and folks who traveled and liked ro camp out. They have a cult following now it seems, and people flock to see them at car shows. I recently found a nice slection at a local event and here are some pictures.

A Morris Twin Cam made in England.

 A 1940 Ford woody, a real star.

A Morris 1000 made in England.

And finally a classic Oldsmobile Model 66.

Thats it for this week, stop by again.
