Traditional here and other areas are the New Years Shooters. Looking rag tag, they in reality a well organized group of black powder rifle experts. For about 24 hours the participant go over the county to prearranged homes and business's to fire there weapons and have a bite to eat and drink.
It is a grueling event and not for the faint of heart. It is fast paced and you need to be at a spot before they arrive.
The spot I picked was the Town's old train station, the team lined up on the tracks an order was given and the firing began to roll down the track like a big freight train (which came along about 15 minutes later). The report's echoed down the track as well as the smoke from black powder. I suggest you wear ear protection (which I did) since the noise is deafening.
Plan on visiting New Year Day next year.
